When You Come to Class
Each day of class, you will meet your instructors at the Fleet House.
Rowers meet at the flagpole and the other classes congregate by class
on the bulkhead behind the Fleet House. No one under 15 is allowed
on the docks without a US Coast Guard approved, Type III Personal
Floatation Device (PFD). Please be sure to arrive with your PFD every
day and please put your name in it with a permanent marker. Maine
weather changes quickly, so a jacket is also a good idea. Finally,
proper boating footwear is necessary. Shoes with non-skid soles,
secured to the foot are required. Sandals with Velcro straps or buckles
are acceptable, but flip flops are not.
Each year, all sailing students are required to demonstrate their
swimming ability. Under the watchful eye of their instructors and
the encouragement of their classmates, students entering the program
will be asked to swim from one dock to another while wearing their
PFD. Bathing suits and towels are recommended on this day.
Daily drop-off and pick-up are particularly busy times at the Sailing
School. Please observe the posted NO PARKING signs. Cars parked on
the curve in front of the Fleet make crossing the street hazardous
for children on foot or bicycle. In addition, you are likely to be
ticketed if you park illegally. There is a large parking lot on Maple
Lane with ample room for all and it is a very short walk to the Fleet
House. |
